Red Cross in Front line with Social and Cultural Activites in Balkot

On International Women's Day, Nepal Red Cross Society along with Mahila Saving and Co-operative limited did a community cleaning activity. The day was March 8 2012 where NRCS Balkot Sub-Chapter Vice Chairperson Mr. Chandra Krishna Shrestha, Secretary Mr. Diwakar Silwal, Treasurer Mr. Umesh Silwal, Vice-Secretary Mr. Jayaraj Poudel, youth volunteer Mr. Samrat Kandel and dozens of other volunteers from NRCS Balkot Sub-chapter with the executive members and volunteers of Mahila Saving and Credit Co-operative were present and did Cleaning on the both sides of main road from Hanumante Bridge to Balkot chowk. Dust of Roads were swept away, Long bushes on the side were cut down and degradable materials were sent to make compost manure while the nondegradable materails were burnt off.

Giving continuity to the preservation of Nepalese Culture and Tradition, like previous years, Holi 'Festival of Colors' was also celebrated by Balkot Red Cross. This is the festival which is celebrated for the miraculous escape that young Prahlad accomplished when Demoness Holika, sister of Hiranyakashipu, carried him into the fire. Holika was burnt but Prahlad, a staunch devotee of god Vishnu, escaped without any injuries due to his unshakable devotion.This is celebrated by people throwing different colors and water to eachother.

About 30 volunteers of Red Cross participated in the program where the participants sang and dance in the holi songs to send the message of brotherhood in the community. The program was ended in joyous note by Treasurer Mr. Umesh Silwal.
